JO SERGEANT

Jo is an activist photographer whose work explores community, identity, protest, and human rights. Through her practice, she uses photography to witness, understand, and share others' lived experiences, fostering empathy, dialogue, and human connection.

A central focus of Jo's practice is the right to protest and freedom of speech. She is interested in how people come together to support one another, challenge injustice, and call for change. At a time when protest is often criticised or restricted, her work highlights its importance as a democratic and human right. Many of the freedoms and protections enjoyed today were won because ordinary people stood together and demanded a fairer society.

Driven by curiosity and a desire to better understand the world around her, Jo approaches photography as a way of learning, questioning, and connecting with others. Through her work, she explores contemporary social issues and lived experiences, encouraging dialogue, understanding, and meaningful change.
